Lilacs in July?

We have six lilac bushes planted next to our house. Now, if you have lilacs at your house, you may know that they are meant to be planted in an open space, with lots of room to grow and get gorgeous. These poor plants do not have that luxury, due to the fact that we have to trim them so that they don't grow against the house, or hang over the lawn, or the electric meter, or the vent from the fireplace, or the air conditioner.... you get the idea.

So, yesterday was the day that they got trimmed, which I actually enjoy. What can I say, I like to make them pretty. Plus, I got a surprise. Some of the branches actually had blooms on them! I saved them and I'm hoping they will open up and make my kitchen smell fresh and spring-like.
Bonus photo: this is the view from our deck on Monday night as the first bout of rain moved through. It was heavy, but short lived. (Thankfully more came through later though, we needed it!) The dark, low hanging clouds looked pretty ominous.
